Etchings
WHAT IS AN ETCHING
An Intaglio etching is an image produced when an inked metal plate - usually zinc/copper or aluminium with an image etched on it by an acid/mordant, is passed through a ethcing press at high pressure onto damp paper.
This pressure forces the paper into the areas eaten by the mordant, thus producing the image.
Most of the etching plates on my site are zinc and etched in nitric acid. Tones have been added with aquatint; sadly a process I can no longer employ. As a result, I am experimenting with aluminium and using copper sulphate as the mordant - results to follow.....
